I hope to come over on Friday and I should like to pick up a little stuff. We need five ordinary roses and if I could get a couple of standard I would be greatly pleased. However, I do not want to rob you in any way. I also need about a half a dozen taxus brevifrolia to fill in the gaps in my hedge. I do not know if I should pay for the last item. The others, however, I should pay for and I should be obliged if you would send them in to Mr. Gray to be billed to me.
1 Matt Broman worked very closely with Thomas B. McQuesten on many of his projects in Hamilton and in Niagara. There is a plaque commemorating Matt Broman's work at the RBG near the Thomas B. McQuesten High Level Bridge. There is also a small lookout park named after him on the brow overlooking King's Forest Park in Hamilton. The series of letters beginning with "986" are all part of the Broman collection.
This letter illustrates once again just how scrupulously honest was T.B. McQuesten. For more information on T.B. McQuesten see his biography.
