I do not know if this is the time, but I hope you will build up an immense stock of lilacs, crabs and thorns to plant a mile of them at a time along the new highway. I should also like to include quite a lot of our new native crab which is very sweet scented and which is dissappearing from many parts of the country. I know there was a good deal of it to the north of the subway on the Queen Elizabeth Highway south of Homer. It probably carries a good many of the insect pests, but these can be kept down by spraying.
1 Matt Broman worked very closely with Thomas B. McQuesten on many of his projects in Hamilton and in Niagara. There is a plaque commemorating Matt Broman's work at the RBG near the Thomas B. McQuesten High Level Bridge. There is also a small lookout park named after him on the brow overlooking King's Forest Park in Hamilton. The series of letters beginning with "986" are all part of the Broman collection.
For more information on T.B. McQuesten see his biography.
