Rev. Calvin McQuesten1
I recieved [sic] your very pretty card about New Years time which I might say I did not enjoy much as I had anticipated owing to my not being in good old Montreal as I had intended but on account of wheat [?] was unable to get wheat marketed in time. But if not [divorced?] by another year will try and go down. Mrs. J.A. [?] told me about having a long letter from you and in answering I suppose she told you all Glenhurst gossip.
I might just say we have no Presbyterian student in here this winter and our brother English man who holds down the Methodist pulpit has found the weather too severe and the attendance to [sic] poor to hold out and has quit until the spring but I hear the other day that he expects the Glenhurst congregation to raise ($300.00) for him by spring now what do you know about that and another of the poor idiots who holds forth at Andath not only out of the church but away from the town and I believe they have collected about $6.000 [sic] for a church in Andath at first it was to be [??] but it is headed by Methodists the Brooks Boys each giving a thousand and I am told Bob Sibold gave six hundred. They have a temporary structure up now about 20x36 and today it was packed to the door and his lordship Mr. Halliday preached. No text just what I believe and some of my experience and now I escaped being an atheist. They have a Sunday school from 2 to 3 superintended by Mr. Herb Brooks another good Methodist.
Andath is just 4 miles straight east of me on Andy Burtons place. Your old and respected friend Mr. Stevens of [Norworth?] who moved last spring up to section 5 31-9 just north east of [?] goods has left for parts unknown and she was sold out by sherriff's sail [sic] last Wednesday. I do not know what is to become of him but expect she will follow him in the Spring he is supposed to be down in Oregon some place.
Miss Anderson is in Quebec spending the winter it was reported she was to mary [sic] Bob Smith but has not yet. Ed & [?] have a young son born on Nov 17 same day as the nurse. William James Tullis is his autograph after the two Grandfathers and Mrs. Smith who was a Miss Tullis he was rather scrawny and delicate when born but is doing nicely now. Well as it is getting and I am going to [??] wheat for [??] John Bradshaw tomorrow I will have to close. Hoping this finds you well as it leaves me and wishing you all prosperity and Happiness in the New Year.
