W8733 TO REV. CALVIN MCQUESTEN from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten
Oct 29 1913
To: Reverend Calvin McQuesten Bracebridge, Ontario
From: 'Whitehern'

My dearest Calvin,

The girls arrived in due time yesterday afternoon. I myself was away in Caledonia and did not get home till evening. I wonder if you knew an Alex Grant of Caledonia, who went to Varsity about the time Herbie Bell and Tom, he was a great student and is a Professor there now I believe. His only sister married "Dane" Dix and died and now he himself is in in [sic] a very precarious condition, after being prostrated at his home in Toronto (he has a wife and two children). Since last March, he was taken by two doctors and a nurse to Boston to a very noted hospital and the doctors discovered a fibrous tumour on the brain. They operated to a certain extent and he is to be brought back this week, but it is very doubtful, if he will ever recover. Mrs. McArthur who was at the Minnewaska with her daughter came to see me the other day, and told me Mrs. Crawford Powis was married.

Hilda says to let Mrs. Holden know she will not want the butter, unless Mrs. Henry would want it. I do hope you will be very comfortable, and do not run yourself to death with that Laymen's business. Mary was out this morning helping to arrange for luncheon at St. Paul's. All send much love and are sorry to leave you alone.

Your loving mother

M. B. McQuesten
