T.B. McQuesten, Esq.,
We thank you for your letter enclosing order for a pair of aquatint engravings "H.M.S. London" and "H.M.S. Royal Sovereign" by Harold Wyllie. We also thank you for the cheque you enclose and we have pleasure in handing you herewith receipt.
We have posted the two engravings to you and we trust they will arrive quite safely. We are reserving another pair until we hear from you. There were only 150 pairs of those plates printed, the plates have been destroyed and there are very few copies remaining.
The process by which these prints are produced is aquatint. A copper plate is engraved by the artist, Commander H. Wyllie, and the copper plate is coloured entirely by hand and printed at one impression without any retouching.1
Awaiting the favour of your further communication,
We are, Sir, Yours obediently,
For and on behalf of Arthur Ackermann & Son Ltd.
John Ritching, Director.
1 There are many engravings at Whitehern, as well as many paintings.
