My dear Cal,
I'm a day too late to reach you, but very many happy returns, all the same. By your next birthday you'll be a staid householder. I hope you like it as your letters show. A couple of weeks ago there was a sale at Britnell's in Toronto. There were great bargains, I got quite a few unframed pictures. I shall look them over and see if there are any suitable and let you have it as a belated birthday present.
The garden is just beginning to get under way. In a few weeks it will be at its best. I have at last succeeded in getting all my stuff in. It's a tedious business.
Yesterday had to go to Waterdown on business. The country is beginning to look beautiful. There is a new line of railroad, the Guelph branch of the C.P.R. running right through the town now. Excuse this brief note. Again, wishing you very many happy returns.
Your affte bro.
