W7040 TO REV. CALVIN MCQUESTEN, B.A. from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten
Jul 14 1928
To: Calvin McQuesten Gaspe Quebec
From: 'Whitehern' Hamilton

Dearest Calvin,

Sorry to hear you are disappointed about the sailing trip, but you may have escaped hardships of which you were not aware. I wondered if you would be able to sleep, if ship rolled and tossed altho' it is said to be good. Now you will just enjoy your comfortable quarters and canoe at Gaspe. Sorry you have missed the cherries. Hilda drove to Grimsby yesterday and brought home the white ones. Tom must have polished off yours and his too.

The rambler roses are splendid and others too; rains not too much have kept every thing green and all the plants in front growing well; a splendid row of stocks, H. wished me to tell you, [?] snap-dragons & all doing well & a very fine white lily with two stalks. The begonias, Tom thought had too much sun, so they are sheltered by a tent like structure of cheese cloth.

Poor old Frank Bruce has died over ninety. We took tea yesterday at Mrs. Lazier's with Mrs. Robin Mullin and a few others. I wore your grand mama's dress, which has now become quite noted. Mrs. Dr. Malloch admired it greatly and Mrs. Robin. The blue purple clematis is very fine, but white one died out. All send much love and hoping you are not too much disappointed. Your affectionate mother M.B. McQuesten
