W6732 TO REV. CALVIN MCQUESTEN, B.A. from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten Jul 20 1911 To: Calvin McQuesten Staney Brae Muskoka From: Bayfield My dear Calvin,
This is a beautiful morning and we are sitting under the trees. Monday it came in very cold, after a wet Sabbath and yesterday there was a great thunder-storm with a bit of rain, but to-day is fine and we feel much better, the other days so dismayed us, that we made up our minds to go home next Thursday. We will then have been here four weeks and have got all the food we could. We are so tired of the place that it cannot do us any good now I think. Edna is very well indeed but longing to get home. Monday being a cold day, we walked over to the Park to see the Turnbulls. We found them much pleased with their surroundings, Mrs. T. had got over her first impressions, which were very disappointing. Connie had arrived and liked it very much and the air exactly suited Mr. T.'s throat, so they were all happy. These places are all very fine on fine days, but the cold wet days are a different story. There is nothing to do here, nobody does any thing and it is all very uninteresting, so that a short time is sufficient. The dust has been laid however, and we hope to get more walks now. On Sabbath p.m. Mr. T. preached, but the minister sang, and preached in the evening. I would like to propose him for St. John's Ham. if I thought they would appreciate him. His sermons are so excellent and his delivery perfect.
You must let us know when you want some money, as my large amounts come in this month and we have to set aside for taxes in Aug. and Sept. Tom says there will be no lack of money but we just have to arrange it. Edna had a note from may Mathewson who is in Goderich, saying Mr. Copeland was coming up and they would motor over here on Saturday, so she is looking forward to them. Well, there seems nothing more to say Had a paper from Miss Fisher, with a most realistic description by a Parisian of the children's festival at the Coronation. Am keeping the paper to show you. With much love.
Your Mother
[M.B. McQuesten]
