W6402 TO REV. CALVIN MCQUESTEN, from his sister, Ruby
Apr 24 1909
To: Rev. Calvin McQuesten Glenhurst, Saskatchewan
From: Whitehern, Hamilton, Ontario
Many Happy Returns of the Day, my Dearest Cal! May your shadow never grow less! Even when the substance is feasted upon by mosquitoes, may every mosquito that ever dares to cast a loving look upon you be shrivelled up to nothing. A little girl was asked to give a sentence with the "extinct." She said, "Our canary bird is extinct--the cat extincted him." And may every wicked and malicious insect that partakes of my Calvinus be extincted.
This seems a sort of belligerent note for the sunny May. I've [?] short of time & I'll send the [?] off Marion's calendar for your day. It is nice, I think.
I'm feeling much more cheerful and wish you the happiest kind of a year.12
With much love,
1 This statement sheds some light on Ruby's condition. It follows the report that Calvin obviously gave to Marion Robinson that when he met Ruby in Winnipeg in late March (W6377), he found that her condition was not good, see W7798, May 29, 1909. For more information on Ruby and her treatment for Consumption (Tuberculosis), see W6135, and see her biographical sketch by clicking on "Family" on the Home Page and then clicking on her picture.
2 This note was enclosed with Ruby's mother's letter to Calvin W6398 of the same date.
