W5474 TO [REV.] CALVIN MCQUESTEN from his mother, Mary Baker McQuesten
May 27 1906
To: Calvin McQuesten Standoff Alberta
From: Birtle School

My dearest Cal.

Just a few lines to let you know where I am. We were here for the 24th and drove 20 miles and back to a pic-nic with the Indians. Very interesting but very fatiguing. Next day drive 32 miles to see a Reserve. It was very cold and windy but it is milder now. We are very comfortable here, the staff are all so kind and friendly. The principal is W.W. McLaren, who was on the Knox Coll. Com. that sent you first to Alberta. He won the Travelling Scholarship but came here six months ago a nervous wreck, forbidden to preach for two years. Have just been writing Geills McCrae Kilgour that Miss Craig and I will reach Brandon on Wednesday. We leave for Portage le Prairie to-day. On Friday we start for File Hills, Expect to be in Regina on 4th and will be in Winnipeg on 7th and 8th. Hope to find a letter from you there, as I have not heard a word from you since I left home. With fondest love.

Your mother

M.B. McQuesten
