Dear Brother,

Mrs E grieved & startled me by reading to me the item in today's Globe announcing the death of your beloved wife1. I can only say that I feel afflicted in your affliction. My prayer is that "the God of all comfort" may comfort you in this sad hour! Death is not the worst thing that might happen to our loved ones! It may be the best! That the conselations of God may abound to you is the prayer of your's cordially

1 This is Rev. Thomas Baker's second wife, Mary-Jane McIlwaine. They had one child; Mary Jane Baker [McQuesten]. He and his first wife, Sarah Orange Hampson(died about 1847), had 8 children.
