Rev'd Thos. Baker
Your favor of the 1st containing P.O. Order was duly received & I beg to express my thanks for the same. Though the illness of Mrs. P. who has been very low & sorely afflicted for a month past, we have had a busy as well as a trying time for the household. I am thankful to say she now seems better though still weak from this fever so prevalent of late in the country (Malaria or Chill fever.) Minnie called to see us lately, and was anxious that her sister should spend a week or two with them in London she also gave her Aunt a kind invitation but she is quite unable to accept it as yet Charlotte has been very kind & anxious for the comfort of the invalid & we think she should therefore enjoy her holiday in London, I only trust that she may not return with a dislike for our way & mode of life, still it is but just to her that she should get a change.
Willie seems more reconciled than he used to be, and I flatter myself in improving in some respects, but I think will never study very closely as he has no thought beyond the present time.
We are all gratified to find Maud is comfortable & has also some very interesting holidays which she doubtless thoroughly enjoys. We have thrashed our Wheat, Barley & oats. They are quite equal to my anticipations though far from a heavy crop Wheat about 15 Bushels per acre Oats 20 & Barley rather more per acre but sample of the latter light. We have 10 acres of Peas to thrash & are now hurrying in the seed Wheat, so we have but little spare time while the season lasts. As regards yr. kind offer to supply the means for providing William with suitable clothing. We will endeavor very soon to obtain what is necessary. I always prefer leaving this department to Mrs. P. if she is at all able to do so and will then acquaint you of the cost.
Hoping that both yourself & Mrs. Baker as well as other members of yr. family may long enjoy a share of health & happiness.
I remain Respectfully yours-
