[This letter was sent c/o Mr. Cyrus Baldwin.]

W-MCP5-6.317 TO ESTIMATE RUTH ESTHER (ESTY) BALDWIN [MCQUESTEN] from her friend Frances Kendrick
Apr 4 1841
To: Estimate Ruth Esther Baldwin, Meriden Academy, New Hampshire, [U.S.A.]

Dear Miss Baldwin,

I received your letter & the shoes only last week, regret that I did not get them earlier as you must have thought me very negligent. I think the shoes handsome & feel much obliged. Charlotte admires hers. Suit your own taste in the pattern for the other pair & they will be right.

Your brief visit made a very pleasant impression upon our little circle & we hope with the return of warm weather to welcome you again. Almost as you may suppose frozen up amidst the mountains & [ink blot] of Vermont we still have warm hearts & a [ink blot] for those we love--we are daily expecting Miss Sparham to take charge of the female department. We have sixty Scholars & several coming in with her. She will board with us & I think it may be a strong inducement for you to visit us with your brother,1 my kind regards to him & to Miss Child.

And believe me ever With sentiments of Esteem Affectionately

Frances Kendrick.

1 The brother is likely the person to whom the envelope is addressed, Cyrus Baldwin.
